Website Designers for Therapists: A Fair Guide to Who Fits Which Practice

A fair guide to 18 website designers for therapy practices, grouped by the kind of practice each one fits, with prices and ownership terms checked on October 29, 2026.

The right website designer depends on three things: how you want to pay, who should own the site, and who writes the words. Subscriptions suit a practice that wants one monthly fee and upkeep handled for it. One-time studios suit established practices that want a custom site they own. Group practices need clinician pages and routing, which some studios and agencies treat as their main work.

This guide groups 18 designers and services that build websites for therapy practices in the US and Canada, by the kind of practice each fits. Every price and ownership term below comes from the company's own pages, checked on October 29, 2026.

How We Chose and Grouped These Designers

We started where therapists look. On September 7, 2026, we recorded Google's top results for "website design for therapists" and four related searches. The same day, we asked ChatGPT ten questions about therapist websites. On October 2, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Meta AI gave us 12 answers to two questions about hiring a website designer for a private practice.

A designer made the list if it appeared in at least two of those three checks. Appearing meant being named in an answer, or being among the pages an assistant read. It also had to build websites for therapy practices, serve practices in the US or Canada, and have a live services page.

Website builders appear in the do-it-yourself section. Consultancies that advise on technology appear in a short note on other help.

The other entries are grouped by fit and run in alphabetical order within each group. This guide ranks no one. AI answers change from one run to the next, and search results vary by location, so read this as a snapshot. Plenty of capable designers sit outside these rules.

Can You Build a Therapist Website Yourself?

Yes. A template keeps cash costs down, and the writing, setup, and updates become your job. Squarespace, Wix, and Showit each sell a monthly or annual plan, and independent designers sell therapist templates for Squarespace and Showit.

Plan prices change, and Wix says its prices and currency vary by location, so check the price at checkout. On Showit, templates come from independent designers through its store, listed at $67 to $1,297 when we checked. If you already use SimplePractice, it says its website builder is included with every plan.

Choosing the platform comes first. Our comparisons cover that choice: Squarespace vs Wix vs custom, Showit vs Squarespace vs custom, and branding a practice on Wix.

How Do You Choose the Right Website Designer?

Compare any shortlist on five things: ownership, fees, process, copy, and leaving. The terms in this guide vary most on ownership and on what happens when you leave.

Who Owns the Domain, the Site, and the Accounts?

Ask for ownership terms in writing before you pay. Check four things separately: the domain, the site files or platform account, the content, and the analytics. In this guide, terms run from every account registered in your name to a design that stays with the provider.

What Does the Price Include?

Compare the cost over three years, including platform fees, care plans, and any minimum term. A $100 monthly plan adds $3,600 over three years on top of any build fee. Ask what the monthly fee covers: hosting, edits, SEO, or only access to the platform. Some entries here set minimum terms, such as 12 or 24 months.

Our therapist website cost guide compares DIY, template, sprint, and custom budgets.

How Does the Work Run?

Ask for the steps, the timeline, and the number of review rounds. Published timelines in this guide run from one to two weeks up to four months. Ask who your contact is, and who makes changes after launch.

Who Writes the Words?

Some designers write every page, some sell writing as an add-on, and some design around copy you supply. Ask who writes, how they learn your voice, and whether you approve each page before it goes live. A prospective client reads those words to judge fit, fees, and the first step.

What Happens When You Leave?

Ask what you keep if you stop paying: the domain, the content, the design, and the files. In this guide, most subscriptions keep the design when you leave, and owned builds hand you the files or the account. Ask how long the handover takes and what it costs.

Questions to Ask Any Designer

  • Who owns the domain, the site, and the platform account, in writing?
  • What does the price include, and what costs extra later?
  • Is there a minimum term, and what does leaving cost?
  • Who writes the copy, and do I approve every page?
  • What do I keep, and what stays with you, if I leave?
  • Where do contact-form messages go, and what do the forms collect?
  • Can I see live sites you built for practices like mine?
  • Who makes changes after launch, and how fast?

Help Beyond the Website

Some questions belong with specialists outside web design. For HIPAA questions about forms, email, and records, Person Centered Tech offers technology consulting and continuing education for mental health practices. Ask clients to share health details through your secure intake or client portal, and keep website forms to the basics.
